About the Author
Inio Asano (born 1980) is considered by many to be one of the biggest new names in manga of the '00's. Debuting in 1998 Asano was immediately thrust into the manga spotlight by earning praise from luminaries such as Naoki Yamamoto and Shin Takahashi. His acsent to stardom was very quick, and regretfully, the young man went into a bit of a slump soon after. Since 2002 Asano has penned 10 graphic novel series, dozens of short stories, and is now making in-roads as one of Japan's more popular graphic designers. In 2014 his most recent English language release Nishigahara Holograph was selected as one of the best graphic novels of the year by Publishers Weekly, Comics Alliance, Comics Resources, and Good OK Bad.

A beautiful illustration of a high-school teen discovering herself and dealing with her sexual desires and heartbreak. The best part is that it is a one volume manga. No bulls***, the story is completed in one volume which I loved. Furthermore the art is AMAZING. The characters are relatable and the pacing is great. A must read for this good price.
For the sheer visual look of it, I would have rated this book five stars. But the font is too faint and small, which takes away from the overall reading experience. But, the book itself is the absolute perfect size. And the illustrations are sumptuous! I would define this book as a deep psychological drama for Adults. Material should be rated for mature audiences only. I do recommend this book if you like foreign films about relationships, because that’s the overall feel of the story. I love this book, just not the tiny font size. Hence the four stars, as opposed to the five stars it deserves.
Wow... This is a deeply moving read. I'll have to think on this quite a bit to write a review to do it justice. But just to say that this is a moving account of a boy and a girl coming to terms with their sexuality, and the complex feelings they have on the cusp of adulthood is not enough. This is amazing and yet seems like such a simple story. It's raw and explicit. It's heartbreaking and yet honest. The artwork itself is beautiful and can without words affect anyone reading the story. Not for the faint of heart, but I would say that A Girl on the Shore is a must read.
This is a very down to earth manga. It's focusing on a girl sexual exploration and growing older. I personally found it well drawn and style to be different and pacing to be interesting. Not my cup of tea however. But I read it through and felt not fully satisfied. But the immersion of the book is great and I can still say I appreciated this as more like art with symbolism of youth learning about themselves.
God, I've never read something that's checked all the tiny little boxes in my mind, but this does it...I feel so sad and empty though. I feel so weird that this isn't my own repulsive life, but others share similar experiences. It's like I'm spiraling and this book is forcing me to face a reality I'm too much of a coward to face. If you enjoy feeling hopeless and troubled, have fun sport! I like this book a lot, but I don't think I'll be ready to pick it up again for a reread anytime soon, too many skeletons in my closet I suppose.
I really enjoy most of Inio Asano's work. Something to note though if that even though the description of this product says "Teen Romance" this may not be a book suitable for all teens. There are depictions of sex between the two main characters, just something to be aware of when buying this book.Overall a sad but good read.
The day this book came in I finished reading it that same night. It kept me interested all throughout. There is a scene in the book with just pictures and lyrics to a song, and after finishing the book, I re-read that scene with the same song playing in the background and it hit me hard. Left me feeling like an empty void at the end. Excellent book.
Story showed the struggles of teenage love and the toil it brings to both parties. i was surprised by how great the illustrations and skill the artist has and used concrete detail on the scenery and characters. Besides love, the author also brings out psychological struggles a teenager may face and how to overcome it. It is worth reading!
