Review

"Stemming from the huge success of her first book, Sheila Rogers DeMare has now unveiled a guidebook for finding triggers for tics. Knowing what triggers tics is a critical step in using natural therapies for controlling symptoms. This new book is a must read for individuals with tics and Tourette syndrome." --Vijendra Singh, PhD, Neuroscientist"Tourette Syndrome: Stop Your Tics by Learning What Triggers Them reflects the author's wealth of experience in this field. With a background in science, Sheila Rogers DeMare provides invaluable advice and practical options. She brings her talents, wisdom, and compassion to the search for solutions to a range of tic symptoms. Kudos!" --Jane Hersey; National Director, Feingold Association of the United States"As an integrative child and adolescent psychiatrist for 28 years, I have treated many struggling with tics and Tourette's, and find environmental and allergic triggers to be critical factors in helping these patients. The concepts outlined here are straightforward yet the clinical implications are profound. Environmental triggers and an understanding of nutritional deficiencies are tragically missed by many physicians treating these conditions." --James Greenblatt, MD; Chief Medical Officer Walden Behavioral Care, Waltham, MA; author Finally Focused"Like so many others, my daughter is lucky to have had her life touched by Sheila Rogers DeMare's work. What a huge impact it has had on our family. Steeled by Sheila's information, I had the confidence to look for new answers to Tourette syndrome. My daughter is now doing very well and she knows what triggers her symptoms. I recommend this book to anyone dealing with tics." --Kace Pence; London, England

My son had tics and Sheila Rogers DeMare's book, Natural Treatments for Tics & Tourettes and her website ACN Lattitudes helped me tremendously in figuring out what I could do to help him. All the doctors said to just wait and see b/c it was too soon to diagnose him with anything. As a parent, when I see my son suffering, waiting and doing nothing is not an ideal solution for me, so I took note of the advice from Sheila Rogers DeMare's book and website resource and made some changes. My son's tics are essentially gone...he has minor ones every now and then, but nothing like the head and eye tics I was seeing a few years ago that made it hard for him on a daily bases. I have not read this new book yet, but I am buying it in support of Sheila Rogers DeMare and the cause. I think it is an important one, one that has directly impacted my family. I am so grateful for her work. Thank you, truly.

This is the first book I have read in my quest to find help for my daughter’s tics. It is very well-written, is comprehensive regarding the subject of triggers, and it leaves me inspired to move forward. The excerpts of other families’ struggles helped me to have a better understanding of what is involved. The resources in the book and on the website latitudes.org will prove useful. I will next read Natural Treatments for Tic Disorders by the same author.I have an older son that began showing a bizarre personality change around the age of 7. Under the care of a psychiatrist we tried a couple of the big meds, with terrible side effects. (This was back in the late 90’s...before I was more informed on such matters.) I told the doctor that my mother’s intuition told me we were “barking up the wrong tree”. She said if I wanted to seek a more natural approach, would I please go to a certain local Naturopathic doctor that she knew very well. When we arrived for our first appt, the doctors and nurses assured me they have seen such personality changes before and said they were going to do some blood tests, but in the mean time remove all dairy and gluten from his diet. The difference was undeniable and equally astounding! The tests they performed showed a high sensitivity to gluten. In the months to follow, it was like a light switch, on and off. When he exhibited the behavior, we would typically find he had had some pretzels or cookies at school. Years later he remains gluten free with no return of the symptoms. Sadly the mentioned practice has since closed.I relate that story to demonstrate the effect of gluten, in this case, on his overall system, including his personality, hoping it will inspire others to look for those triggers that are effecting their child with tics.Best wishes to all

As a parent, I find it can be overwhelming to look for symptom triggers. There are ideas in this book that I never would have thought of. I found it reader friendly and very encouraging. Some of the logs and charts look like they were tailor-made for our situation.

I spent my life dealing with chronic tic syndrome, and I grew up watching my brother deal with full blown Tourette. I learned of the author twenty-three years ago when my son showed signs of Tourette syndrome. Back then, the Association of Comprehensive Neurotherapy (ACN), was a life saver. However, that was a time when the Internet was in infancy and the only method for obtaining information was through the monthly newsletter. These days, the ACN website is a wealth of information as is this book. The book goes into enough detail to educate while serving as a comprehensive guide that is easy to follow with lots of charts and reference materials. I was reminded of being a child and hearing my mother crying in the bathroom when the author told her story and said, "If a mother's tears could have cured him, I would not be writing this book." I only wish the author wrote this book twenty-three years ago.

This book helped me feel like I can make a difference in reducing my sons tics, instead of trying to simply ignore them which is advice I usually get. We already eat very healthy but it will be interesting to see which foods trigger him that I did not consider. I appreciate this book very much!

Informative!

Came in great shape since it was a brand new book.

I learned lots of knowledge of Tourette's from ACN website and the first book "Natural Treatments for Tics and Tourette's". Then, I know to find out the tic triggers and avoid them is very helpful to stop the tics. Tics are really not simply wax and wane, that's because something suddenly happened to wax the tics and then gone to wane them. The concept is very important and can guide me where might be the suspect triggers I can detect. After identifying which triggers turned on my child's tics, I removed them and then her tics were turned off gradually.I bought this book "Tourette Syndrome: Stop Your Tics by Learning What Triggers Them" to upgrade my knowledge and to share the concept with friends. This concept help my family a lot and I think it also could help other families. It should not be only in English, I hope it can be multi-languages to help all the Tourette's all over the world.
