Traces of Guilt: An Evie Blackwell Cold Case is a novel by Dee Henderson about a detective who lovers her job but also wants to find balance in her personal life. As she moves up the ladder, she meets someone who might be able to stoke her passions.The characters in this book are well-written. I have not read anything else by this author, but in this book, the well developed characters allow the reader to get interested in the story from the start. You don't have to wait until you are three or four chapters in to be excited about what might happen next. This would be a great novel to read on a summer vacation.Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for writing an honest review. I did not receive any other compensation.

I really hate writing negative reviews, but I found myself very disappointed in this book. I realize that different people will have different opinions, and I see there are a lot of excellent reviews. I’m happy for the readers that liked the book, because it’s wonderful to read a something you thoroughly enjoy. Sadly, that wasn’t the case for me with Traces of Guilt. I'll explain my reasons.I read the O’Malley series, and LOVED the books. The second series, Uncommon Heroes, I enjoyed, but somehow were a little less satisfying. I continued reading her books, hoping for the Dee Henderson of the O’Malley series to reappear. Unfortunately, in the book Full Disclosure-- bear with me, this does relate-- we were introduced to a character that was unlikeable. That character was Ann, and regardless of how often we were told of her specialness (which was extolled ad nauseum), I was never able to get there. Though all of Ann’s friends constantly expressed how amazing and wonderful she was, it was impossible to find that in the character of Ann. To me she was self-indulgent and self-centered. Somehow she also knows everyone’s secrets and seems to delight in cryptically warning others about them. I am mentioning Ann because, unfortunately, she shows up in this book. Worse, much of what I thoroughly disliked about Ann was replicated in Evie. Evie is another woman who we are told is so exceptional, but is hard to find common ground with or be invested in. The local sheriff, Gabriel, became interested in her, but was way too understanding of her self-centeredness and unwillingness to reciprocate. Even her current beau Rob, whom she is so blasé about I pitied him, was described as incredibly enamoured of her. Somehow we are to believe that he has plans to wear Evie down and arrange their life together so thoroughly that she can’t say no to his proposal. Romantic, right?Sheriff Gabriel also has calculated plans to encourage Evie’s acceptance of his interest. I’m not sure what either man sees in her, because she is not a compelling, warm or lovable character. The way she works on the cases really is very interesting and does keep the plot moving along nicely, however. But Gabriel's interest in Evie is difficult to accept. Their relationship seems so cerebral and dispassionate.There is also an obvious attempt at making Evie Ann’s Mini Me; in fact, Ann wants Evie to step into her government position and even gave her flying lessons so she could be a more exact replica of herself. That certainly doesn't help Evie's lack of appeal.The plot-line regarding the cold cases that they are trying to solve are very intriguing and definitely kept my interest, which was the saving grace of this book. These cases are what required the introduction of Evie, so there was a chance to write a really compelling character. Unfortunately the opportunity was completely missed.One of the cases included a character named Grace. She was not featured as much as some of the other, less interesting characters. However, I ended up really caring for Grace. She is a sweet and strong woman who underwent horrific abuse, but she ends up being the person I cared for in the book the most. I hope she shows up again. Another interesting character is Karen, and I hope her story gets told at some point as well.I wish I liked these last books of Dee’s more. I see there’s a new Evie Blackwell book due to be released in March 2017, but I’m not sure if my hope that Dee can recapture some of the delightfulness of the O’Malley series will get me to purchase the next book. Since her characters have gotten less and less compelling as time has gone on, I can’t see this series recapturing everything that was wonderful about the O’Malleys. Unless the next book covers more of Grace’s story, I likely won’t bother buying it. I don’t understand what may have happened to have changed Dee’s characters from being well fleshed-out and people you genuinely are invested in to people that are so two-dimensional that you just don’t care.

I usually love Dee Henderson but I have found all of the books featuring Ann and Paul to be over the top unbelievable. Ann is too good and perfect and everyone loves her. She is the best at everything she does. Honestly, I find it very boring and uncharacteristically unreal even for fiction. These books have been wordy as well with Ann giving much needed advice that everyone is so grateful for. (Eyes rolled) sad to say because I am a FAN! I have read every book she has written and love the suspense and characters until now.

I didn't get very far into the book before I put it down. The storyline is already confusing with too many characters and threads being spun out, making it too difficult to get a sense of where this might be headed. It hasn't hooked me quickly enough for me to care about anyone or be curious about anything. I have no sense of who the central players are going to be, because there are so many of them and they seem to be equally weighted at this point (about 15% of the way in).Also, few reviewers have mentioned the heavy use of 'religious' reference that pervades the dialogue and character motivation. I have nothing against a story that is "clean" or relationships, including love stories, that stay chaste. And I have nothing against characters who are very spiritual or religious. However, when proselytizing or bible-based life advice crops up every two or three pages and from the lips of multiple characters, I find myself jolted out of the story and dropped into a Sunday school lecture. For me it really stopped the flow.This author isn't for me. Her writing was too choppy and the story she was trying to tell was too broken up. I'm sorry that I spent money on two books before I actually read one - now I'd like my money back. (I'm giving this a 2-star "I don't like it" rather than a 1-star "I hate it" because it's not dreadful or terrible, but I really just don't like it.)

I thoroughly enjoyed Traces of Guilt. I was immediately drawn into the story with Gabriel and Evie and the two cold cases the writer put on the table. As we were introduced to the Thane family by Ann Falcon (one of my favorite Dee Henderson characters) I found myself wanting to know more about them and spend time with them.I feel like this book was Dee's way of introducing us to a new vein of characters, places, and situations that will play out in additional books. It reminded me a lot of Full Disclosure (Ann and Paul Falcon's story) but she is taking her time with Evie and Gabriel. They both have intricate stories that are converging and it will be complicated to work through. I think it would have felt rushed and we would have missed some of the details if their story if it was completely wrapped up in Traces of Guilt.I think the open ending may be why some readers felt a little disappointed with Traces of Guilt. The focus of the novel isn't the attraction between Evie and Gabriel. Instead it felt like the writer was setting the stage for their story (and other characters like Karen & Grace) to come. If that's the intent, then I'm willing to wait and see it played out in future books. It will be worth the wait.

I was super excited to get this workbook and cd rom. I was searching for something to deal with fractions, time, and money as a whole to supplement our homeschooling experience. This cd rom is awful. It's not very fun and our daughter who is 7 is just clicking through the workbook style problems and onto very juvenile games that aren't even at grade level for her. She is understanding it however I think she won't play it for long. We'll see though. So far extremely unimpressed!

GREAT supplemental activity for home schooling. My daughter used this last year for first grade and already knows the information that's in her second grade curriculum. Has made learning time/money/fractions fun for her, and my 4 year old son can't wait until he's old enough to do this CD. Highly recommend!

I picked up this workbook and CD-ROM set at Wal-Mart a few years ago when my now 9-year-old started 1st grade. I was looking for a way for her to work on her own with some extra math practice during a time when I couldn't spend as much face time with her as I wanted. This program (she mainly used the CD-ROM) gave her a solid introduction to time, fractions and money in a way that kept her interest and helped her look forward to our school time. When we reached these skills in our regular math program a bit later, she was able to breeze through those lessons, even though our regular math program is much more advanced than this workbook. Then I set aside the mostly unused book and the CD-ROM for later kids.Fast-forward a couple of years, and my now 7-year-old was struggling with math. We took a break from her normal math program, and I started giving her one page at a time in this workbook. Last week, I pulled out the CD-ROM again and got her started on it on the computer. At first, she spent a lot of time on the silly games, but once she saw that she actually knew more math than she realized, she rocked through the exercises and was skipping the games altogether. She finished all of the computer exercises today, about a week from when she started them! It has helped boost her confidence with math, and the exercises in the workbook are giving her more in-depth coverage of the topics included. We have now started back with her regular math program, and she has learned so much during the interim while using only supplements. We'll continue with the supplements, but I'm back on amazon to get a replacement workbook in preparation for my younger sons when they reach this age, and to look for additional programs from this series to continue supplementing for my up-and-coming 2nd grader.

Given that I was reading this on a Kindle, I found it very hard to maneuver back and forth between pages and sections. Seems there should be a more intuitive way for a person to access information from different sections such as compare restaurants in different neighborhoods.

The tourist information is decent, but navigation on the Kindle (for iPad) could be better. Also needs better maps -- why not an offline downloadable zoomable map? This is what e-media ought to specialize in.

It helped, but there's an updated version out now.

It's more descrpitive and helpful than other book on Hongkong- 10 Things to do in Hongkong- I bought recently from Amazon.

Great book for navigating Hong Kong!

Very good for sightseeing. Not so good for hotels and restaurants, as it leans to heavily on the ultra luxury places, but not enough on harder to find reasonable places. The best places can be found anywhere.

I bought this for a short trip to Hong Kong and Macau. I found the content really hard to organize and didn't give me an easy way to understand the city. I have used a number of different travel guides for other cities and this was first one that hasnt been helpful.

This book is rife with errors. We're on day two of our trip to Hong Kong and there have been two restaurants with incorrect addresses listed in the book. We're now going to have to triangulate every tip in the book online before we take any more of the Fodor's advice. Pretty frustrating.

Last week one of the computers in the office crashed. IT came in with a new computer with an upgrade to MS Office 2010 installed - sending the individual back to Square 1. We had all been working in Office 2003 and were quite adept at using the menus. This worker now has to learn to work with the ribbon. Soon all the other computers will be upgraded. In an effort to prepare myself and save constant searching for the new location of commands, I purchased several of these cheatsheets. I'm hoping they will shorten the length of time it takes for me to get used to the new location of previously-used menu commands.

This has been very helpful when working with Microsoft's Word 2010. Office 2010 is so different than the earlier versions and this little cheat sheet has been incredibly helpful with things that use to be so obvious. Nice information and the lamination means it will last for quite sometime to come.It beats dragging out the book and looking up the process you are trying to accomplish only to be run around in circles until you finally find the answer.Highly recommend to anyone having trouble with Microsoft's Word 2010.

ok, only used it a couple of times. Really don't like the 2010 version but since you have to move with the times I gave up the pretty basic, very adequate, and clean 2007 version and stumble along in 2010. Eventually you find the things you need, after some irritating delays, but . . what can you do. We don't really have a choice so roll with it.

Whoops - thought I had purchased Microsoft 10, not Word 2010 - so it's okay for what it is, just my misinterpretation and not worth sending back; most people are way behind Word 10, so be careful.

I bought this because I was getting a new computer and needed to update my programs from 10 years ago. I bought this because I had heard that Word 2010 had a lot of changes. I haven't used Word 2010 very much but when I have I tried to use this product when I ran into problems. I haven't found it to be that helpful. It assumes that the user knows a lot already about the program which I don't. I guess I'll have to buy a book.

A great reference sheet for Microsoft Word. It is laminated and has held up very well so far. I refer to it now and thenand almost always remember what I did so I do not have to refer to it for the same thing again. It is well done

Ok to review the Abdomen section but its really just an outline/chart listing of facts in no particular order/hierarchy. Some of the practice questions were familiar to me when I took the exam for Abd, but without diagrams or pictures or bolding, etc I had a very hard time learning the SPI portion from this book and subsquently, performed suboptimally on the exam. Not for primary learning but a review book only in which some of the practice questions weren't even covered in the review chapter.#Testingagainin60days

Great book

It's easy to read, use, and understand but I would like it more if it had more pictures and diagrams. I'm more of a visual learner. It's almost too simple and I'm afraid it's not enough information. I will be taking both my Abdominal and OB/GYN boards next week and I'll let you know if I passed and if I felt prepared. I already passed the physics 3 years ago and I didn't use this book for that so I can't comment or its usefulness in that category.

This book was great at narrowing down what you need to study for. I used this in conjunction with the online resources in conjunction with it and the xzone test at Edelman's for my ARRT exam.

Used Ovel in conjunction with Edelman and Lange to study for SPI, Abdomen, and OB/GYN. Passed all three on first attempt. The QR code on the inside of the book leads to quizzes for each category in multiple formats that can be taken on a mobile device which was very useful. The book also has quizzes at the end of each chapter as well as cumulative tests for all three categories which was also beneficial. My advice: Study multiple sources for each registry exam, don't just study one source. :)
