Both the Nikon Coolpix P900 and this book are kinda hard to review and rate. The camera is so complex, and Nikon has decided not to include a paper manual in a $600 camera that is now selling at MSRP, which I think is really shoddy -- there is plenty of room in the large box, and the idea of using a downloaded pdf that is massive is preposterous. How you gonna lug a computer around with your camera stuff? Well, all the information about this massively flexible camera is included in Mr. White's book. Particularly in the beginning, I found it hard to follow. For some reason, he begins with short discussions of the camera as it comes out of the box with enough settings to go out the door and shoot. But he does not really explore the entire setup menu until something like chapter 7. I would have moved it up much closer to the beginning. His chapters on the menus and features, once he got going, were really comprehensive and well-covered. There is really not any other choice at this point, so if you are looking for a comprehensive manual that covers the mammoth features and the few questionable decisions Nikon made (no raw files, apparent restriction on panoramas to only wide angle, for example). So while not the best organized camera book I have read and not the easiest to follow, this really does cover everything and earns the five stars, I think.Addition 10/15: Many of the features and settings do not explain why Mr. White makes the suggested choices. Occasionally he does explain why, but, for the most part, this information is missing. This is in contrast to David Busch's books that always explain why he recommends his settings. Otherwise, this is a great book and essential for shooters who want to be able to make use of the amazing features of this amazing camera.

This book is a comprehensive instruction manual that goes above and beyond what the Nikon manual does. Not only that, but it is a lot more clear and precise than the official manual. Alexander White also includes information about the Nikon P900 that you won't even find in the Nikon Manual.One Example Is: White informs the reader that the P900 does not have the Infrared Blocking Filter, which many cameras have. So, it is possible to do infrared photography with the addition of an add-on filter which blocks all light except infrared light. You wouldn't know that without this book. White also writes in a way that is easy to read and understand, while still not over-simplifying.

I read both pro and con reviews. I got the book regardless of the small amount of negative remarks. Some of the cons were the book was too technical. You do have to have some knowledge of how cameras operate and terms used. I personally thought the book is well written and easy to follow. I'm a hands on learner. I used the book along with my camera. The book seems like a LOT of reading, but the camera isn't a easy camera to get to know. There is a lot going on with this camera. It is way more than just point and shoot. Some of my frustrations that I couldn't figure out with the camera is in the book. It explained clearly that I could understand. I suggest you read the intro and the first couple of chapters to get the lay of the camera. Then you can use the table of contents to jump around if you need or maybe you are like me just want to figure out how the heck do I set the camera up to take particular picture. I haven't read all the book yet, but what I have read I have found it very informative. I recommend the book, but remember it will help to have some understanding of the terms used. If you don't this can assist you to learn them. I have yet to see any cons.

I am not one to "read the manual", but know that when I am fully lost its time to RTFM. The P900 factory manual is a downloadable PDF and not the best organized document. When I need to refer to a manual, I want an old school hard copy. This serves the purpose very well. Indexed nicely, great illustrations / pictures that explain everything. Eventually I may learn all about the P900 but until then, I will schlep this around. I love the large format book style, so much easier to read for quick reference. If you spend the money on a P900, don't skimp, buy this too!UPDATE Aug 2018: I've owned this book for almost a year now and I STILL refer back to this manual when I can't figure out how to do something. Did I mention its got a great index! Nikon should just pay the author and include this with every P900!

If you own or are seriously considering owning a Nikon Coolpix P900, this is a must buy. Not only is this guide written well, the author explains everything you need and/or want to know about this camera. The guide that comes with the camera is useless, for the most part. You would think Nikon could do better guides for their cameras. Anyway, I purchased this guide prior to purchasing my Nikon Coolpix P900 (didn't buy through Amazon because I saved $60 through a camera store) because I wanted to know everything I could about this camera in order to determine if it was what I was looking for. This guide convinced me. I recently purchased this camera and this guide is a great teaching tool. Not only does the author explain the camera well, it is also a pretty good photo lesson. I was a photographer in the Marine Corps some years ago and continued to shoot a lot over the years but I still had a lot to learn about digital photography technology and this guide answered many questions for me. Buy this. You won't be disappointed.

I bought this book on Kindle the same day I bought my Nikon P900.Reading this book is ESSENTIAL to understanding the camera.Without it, you will never take advantage of most of its features.This book really taught me a lot about using my new camera.

If you have not read the book, 40 Days through Revelation" by Ron Rhodes then you are missing out on a great read. It is a workbook/book that reads like a book and is hard to put down. It is only 40 days and the chapters are only about 4 to 5 pages long and in a reasonable size font. Not a tiny or real small font at all. It takes Revelation and teaches it in bite size chunks that are easy to understand. I highly recommend this book and it is not expensive. I paid only $8.50 for it on Amazon. Seriously, if you're interested in understanding this book of the bible then please consider this book. I am not helping the author at all and I don't know him but, I know a great teaching tool when I see it and this one is awesome.

I really loved this book. I have always found revelation a challenging book of the Bible. I decided to try this book with my study of Revelation. I found so helpful the I couldn't hardly wait for my daily Bible study and often doubled up days so I actually did the study in about 30 days. True to Ron Rhodes style, each chapter concludes with Life Lessons and questions for reflection that help one grow in our personal relationship with Christ. I used this with my favorite NASB life application study Bible and they meshed perfectly. I am going through the entire new Testament now with Ron Rhodes "90 Days Through the New Testament" which is in Chronological order and am also using 40 Days through Revelation where it fits in the chronology. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to study Revelation.

Have not gotten all the way through the book yet. I purchased it mainly as a supplement to an end-times study course I am taking, to get additional view points. I also have his 40 Days through Daniel book, which was very good, in particular when discussing the 'king of the north and king of the south'. If you are already a bible scholar, perhaps these books are not for you. For others, like me, who are relatively new to learning about the end-times, Mr. Rhodes' books are very helpful.

Ron Rhodes has excellent Quotentuals for writting this hard to understand book of the bible. I look at the writters back ground, Teaching at BIOLA University tells me a lot. Also he aligns himself with solid men of the word that I appreciate. His writing and teaching is cross referanced with God's word which can't be disputed.If one is really interested in knowing the Book of the Revelation, this is the one. I gave this a four star rating because it took you step by step through the chapters explaining the background and terminology. He gives insights into each verse and ends each chapter with major themes, cross references,life lessons and questions for reflection. This book shows you God's plan for us throughout the ages and leaves you with a deep yearning for the heaven that is to come.

very easy to read along with Revelation. Gives many cross references to aid in a deeper study. Gives a concise explanation of each verse and not a lot of commentary that goes too deeply into the writers opinion, thus allowing the the reader to form their own opinion using scripture to interpret scripture.

This is a great book to read through in 40 days. Whether you're familiar with Revelation or don't understand it, this is a great book to read through. I'm going to pass this book along to someone else so that person will be blessed by it.

Good basic introduction to Turner and his works. Leaves you wanting more.

Any review of this book would have to start out by mentioning the fact that it is part of Taschen’s “Basic Art” series. As such it is only 96 pages in length and most of these 96 pages consist of illustrations of the artist’s work. Hence for anyone seeking a deep and profound academic opus, this is not the book to read. It is instead geared to the layman with little knowledge of the artist who desires to get up to speed in about 2 or so hours. For that reader the book rates a solid four star.The book has many positives. For one, it provides a good overview of the artist’s best and most well known work. The selection of the artist’s work is impressive, especially considering how much the artist has produced. As Turner has over 19,000 paintings and drawings this was no easy task. Putting together this Taschen edition was not as easy as putting together Taschen books that review, say, Vermeer, Bosch and Bruegel the Elder (these artists only have, give or take, about 40 known paintings).In addition, most of the illustrations showing Turner’s work are quite good, especially considering the price of this book. Not great relative to museum quality books that go for $50 to $100 but for a book in the $10 to $15 range very good.The book also provides a decent biography of the artist as well as how his art evolved over time. He started painting and drawing while still a child and his parents, unlike so many parents of artistic children, did not steer him away from it but facilitated and fostered his development in the field. As a 14 year old he was accepted to the Royal Academy and after that he became a master draughtman and painter of literal landscape in the style of Friedrick. He was extraordinary in this regard and acclaimed. Eventually, however, he evolved from this literal style to a more impressionistic. The influence of Goethe’s “Theory of Colors” is evident, as the book makes clear.All and all the book does a good job at both providing a biography of the man as well as discussing and analyzing his style. There are a few weaknesses, however, the prevent this reviewer from granting this book a five-star rating. One is that many of the illustrations are too small. A number are just of thumbnail size, which does not do justice to his paintings. The second is that, even though the illustrations of the paintings are quite good (at least for a book in the $10 to $15 range), the colors are still not as vivid as they should be. This is a text book for a college course in image editing. I love the Digital Classroom books! I always buy these books for class instead of using the online versions on the university website so I can continue learning these Adobe products on my own time after I finish the class. The included DVD tutorials really help and unlike some other instructional books which provide only online tutorials, these tutorials do not expire.

Very detailed and well written, and coupled with the video tutorials it is an excellent learning tool. I have the Dreamweaver Digital Classroom as well and I think that they are best instructional media that is available.

Due to the detailed step-by-step instructions, tutorials (companion DVD) and full-color photos, I continue to return to this particular training book. It is easy to understand and gives the basis for implementing projects requiring Photoshop assistance. One thing I find advantageous regarding this instructional tool, is that it gives more than just one method of obtaining the same results, so you can choose your favorite process, but know there are other methods as well that you might like to try. You can learn at your own speed and always refer back to a lesson or the enhanced video. There is an entire chapter dedicated to showing you what's new in Photoshop CS6, which is informational for explaining the new brushes, layer panel improvements and other features.

We love almost all the Magic School Bus books, and this is one of the best. In this installment, the bus visits a dinosaur dig, then becomes a time machine (of course) and goes back to find the Maiasaura. But they overshoot the Cretaceous and go back to Late Triassic. Then they work through the different dino periods, meeting different dinosaurs along the way, learning what the Earth looked like then as well as the names of the periods. This actually taught me a few things, and really helps put the dinosaurs into perspective. In that way it's far better than the umpteen zillion books that simply catalogue different dinos--way better than "Oh Say Can You Say Di-no-saur."Another reviewer complained that this book (like all Magic School Bus books) is too "cluttered." I can understand why--I don't like overbusy books either. But this is different. The whole thing is well-thought-out and a lot of the fluff (in the dialogue and the class assignments) earns its way for its value in useful background info or humor.I've read most of the Magic Tree House books to my 3-year-old and he still hasn't gotten tired of them. The books are also very meaty, more than what you would expect from a 45 page book that looks like a cartoon book; they usually take us two or three sittings to get through.

My 3 boys grew up with The Magic School Bus books so when my nephew had a boy (works for girls too!) I knew I had to share the joy! We had many of the books and watched the series on PBS in the 1990's, and subscribed to the kits. My kids always knew more than others about science as they learned so much as small children that they had a great foundation for school. I highly recommend any of the Magic School Bus Books, videos, and kits!

I got this book and there was writing all over the inside of the cover and it even had a phone number. It was all crinkled up and had a tear in one of the pages. I am not overly concerned because it is going into a 3rd grade classroom library and kids are rough on books.

As most MSB books, science and history are presented in a fun, relatable and engaging manner. This was a read aloud to my children, 9 and 6, over a few days as part of a Prehistory Unit. There was material offered in MSB that was not offered elsewhere and the book helped engage the children imaginatively. Great book!

We are big fans of the Magic School Bus series. We have a three year old. He doesn't sit for the entire book all at once. Each page has a ton of information to read and discuss. An older child could probably sit for the whole book but younger ones it may take a few days.

I really wanted to like this book. My son loves dinosaurs, and his reading level fits nicely with the Magic School Bus series. But neither he nor I found this book to be fun reading. The story itself is not that great and you basically have to keep reading things on the side bars that are semi-interesting but disruptive to any flow of the story. I suppose some kids and parents like this style that appears in all the Magic School Bus series. My son and I may be in the minority - but we did not find it that fun. Both of us were happy to be through with the book - it was not particularly riveting - just something to read... and a bit helter-skelter at that. Personally I think that kids at this reading level (1st-2nd grade) enjoy fiction, or an easy to read non-fiction book. This attempt at combining both was just not that enjoyable - at least for us. The Magic Treehouse series (while not my favorite) is more enjoyable reading that his - because the story line is better. IMHO

My nearly 5 year old daughter is dino obsessed and has enjoyed other Magic School Bus books. I surprised her with this set while we were en route during a 2.5 hour car ride. She loved it, following along in the book part of the time, just listening at other times. She wanted the CD on the whole trip, both ways! Just a note that most of the information covered, she already knew, but in that she's quite knowledgable on the subject that's to be expected.

I bought this book for my grandson, age 7, because he loves The Magic School Bus stories and loves dinosaurs, so I knew it would be a hit. It sure was! He asks to read this book over and over. It may be for an age group a little older, but 7 would probably be on the outer edges of the age group for this book. Great pictures!
