I learned a few interesting facts but the pictures look like they're by an amateur clay artist. I have worked with clay before but wanted to pick up some tips. This particular book seems more fit for children than adults.

I have read many books on polymer clay before trying. It is just me I love to gather information prior to doing something. I also read directions. Evi Boyle has thought this book out carefully. I will be following this book first when I try it today. Update later.

I have been working with polymer clay for several month now and like with most things that I try I see it I sort of like so I jump in with an array of supplies and tools a few instructions (most of which are hard to understand) do some projects and loose interest because the instructions are just too complicated! Evi I applaud you! Anyone can use these instructions beginning for the first time intermediate or advanced and will still learn something new!

This book covers only basics of polymer clay. There are no ideas for projects. The pictures are not clear enough to understand what things should look like.

For a master class, this is too basic. A good beginners book, though... well written and photographed. Just don't expect anything other books don't also cover.

If you are trying polymer clay for the very first time this is a good book for that. The projects require very few tools, most of which you may already have. The projects are presented clearly and simply.If you have already invested in a pasta machine and taken a workshop, then this book is probably already too basic for you.

Evi's primer on polymer clay is the third I've tried, and by far the best....her very light hand and warm tone were just the thing to encourage me to get started in this medium. Perhaps it's that stream-of-consciousness style.....

This book is so important, and I'm very glad Jessica Luther was the one to write it. Her research is thorough and meticulous, she applies and intersectional lens in her assessments, and she shows the compassion and empathy that is so often lacking for victims of sexual assault. The colleges, sports organizations, and sports media would do well to adopt her ideas about how they can improve things and show that they truly do care about victims of violence more than they do about winning trophies. Luther is fair to all parties involved, and simply wants to see us do better by people who have been harmed in the most egregious ways.

I have been a fan of Jessica Luther for a while now, following her work on Twitter. She approaches sports writing in a way that more people should: by looking at sports in relation to culture and politics rather than purely as scores and statistics. This was a difficult read because it includes detailed accounts of abhorrent crimes that received minimal press and even less accountability. But it’s important to understand the ways in which our institutions and the ways we interact with these institutions facilitate sexual assault.I was shocked to realize how few of these stories I was aware of. I was repulsed by the quotes from coaches and the sexually explicit programs colleges put into place to recruit players. At the beginning of the text, Luther spends almost an entire chapter simply listing all of the instances of sexual assault in college football she was able to find in her research. As the book continues, she unpacks some of these examples in depth to show how the institutions, the players, the coaches, the media, the police, and the public failed the victims. She illustrates how formulaic and predictable the reaction to each instance is, and at the end she lays out the changes that need to be made if we actually care about fixing this.Luther is uniquely qualified to approach this because she is a sports fan herself. She writes with passion and urgency, delivering both objective accounts of events and critical analysis that is backed by research. Although I do wish her proposed solutions were a little more specific, I am glad that she did more than simply lay out the problem. She also organizes the book very well, drilling down into each element of the issue and using the cases that best illuminate the flaws in the response.This is a valuable read for those who are caught in the moral complication of enjoying sports and realizing the ways they reinforce dangerous social problems.

I have been waiting for months for this book to come out, and it was everything I hoped it would be. I felt like I had been hit in the gut reading some passages. I found myself nodding emphatically in agreement, wanting to cry, wanting to yell in anger, wanting to get up and do something. I highlighted so many passages, and am going to be passing this off for friends to read-- I wish everyone could read this.Jessica Luther is excellent at research, and it really shows. The stories and statistics give a very clear picture of this problem, in a way that doesn't allow you to explain anything away or make excuses. She holds everyone accountable, from the actual perpetrators of the crime, to the coaches and athletic departments, Title IX offices, police, and media. The look into the "playbook" for handling sexual assault as it exists now is incredibly thorough.The solutions she offers seem to pretty much be common sense, but, sadly, would be almost radical if put into play. I like that she offered a solution for every problem she addressed in the first part, from the big to those that seem small and inconsequential, such as locker room talk.As a woman who loves sports more than anything, but hates the way it treats women, making me feel unwelcome and unvalued and even sometimes like it sees me as less than human, I enjoyed reading this from the perspective of a woman who loves sports just as much as I do, and hates this insidious part of it like I do. I like that she addressed how she wishes she could compartmentalize and keep her knowledge out of her mind while she enjoys football, but she can't-- I feel the same way.And finally, as a woman pursuing a career in sports, who currently works in a college men's team locker room, her offering that women in locker rooms and all kinds of sport jobs will contribute to helping to work on this issue because it forces these men to humanize women was a great encouragement for me personally. It is important to me that I take what I learned reading this book and push to make it a part of what I do in the industry.I love and recommend this book with my whole heart.

What a great read about a major problem in college athletics. The book is a good read and goes into detail about sexual assaults by athletes on college campus's. The book starts with reports about the allegations at Florida State and the book ends with the charges on the campus of Baylor University. It's a must read for anyone who likes college sports and anyone who wants to be informed about sexual assaults on college campus's.

Once again, Jessica Luther writes with care & humility as she unearths the relationship between college football and sexual violence. Difficult at times because of its honest retelling of rape and assault, Unsportsmanlike Conduct provides a detailed overview of the history of universities covering up the harms of their players then delves into a playbook of suggestions & solutions for tackling the problems of violence within college football at the coach, school, & systems levels. Because Luther has been an avid college football fan, the book's nuance doesn't simply dismiss violence as a symptom of football bro culture but also doesn't go easy on even her favorite schools or programs. This is a must-read, not just for athletes, coaches, & sports fans, but also for those who dream of a world without intimate partner & sexual violence.

This book is a fraud. It is an incomplete, insipid, narrow, anecdotal view of Mexico City providing no unique information which is not well and more thoroughly presented in other travel books. Also lacks an index. It is sort of like someone decided to self-publish some travel notes, padded to make the piece longer, and then get some friends to give it great reviews. My signal should have been that there were only six reviewers and five of them gave five stars. I returned the book and recommend that you spend your money on Eyewitness Travel Top Ten or Jim Johnson's 'opinionated' Mexico City guide both of which were quite useful to us.

I enjoyed this quick book about the authors long weekend through one of the largest cities on Earth. The title makes it very clear that this is not meant to be a guide to all things Mexico City, but rather her experiences over 3 days. The author is clearly a very seasoned traveler, so her personal tips on traveling ranging packing methodology all the way to riding subway system in foreign countries are well though out and helpful. She also helped to dispel some of my previous preconceptions about Mexico City and make a future trip to the city a whole lot more possible!

It is kind of her trip diary. And if you have never traveled abroad, and need a step by step book, you might benefit from . Easy to read and you can finish reading it on plane .

Very conversational and easy to read with great tips - everything from how to get the best value for what you are looking for, great places to eat and sites to see, as well as important safety tips (invaluable when traveling as a tourist to any large city). With an emphasis on planning and research to make your trip to Mexico City safe, enjoyable and memorable!A great read!

Excellent book! I have had the pleasure of traveling with Terry and those trips have been the best I have ever experienced! Terry researches every aspect of a trip and as you can read in this book finds some very interesting and different things to do and see. About the Author

Julian Smart has degrees from the University of St. Andrews and the University of Dundee. After working on model-based reasoning at the Scottish Crop Research Institute, he moved to the Artificial Intelligence Applications Institute at the University of Edinburgh, where he founded the wxWidgets project in 1992. Since starting Anthemion Software in 1996, Julian has been helping other companies deploy wxWidgets, and he sells tools for programmers, including DialogBlocks and HelpBlocks. He has worked as a consultant for various companies including Borland and was a member of Red Hat's eCos team, writing GUI tools to support the embedded operating system. In 2004, Julian and his wife Harriet launched a consumer product for fiction writers called Writer's Café, written with wxWidgets. Julian and Harriet live in Edinburgh with their daughter Toni. Kevin Hock has degrees from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) in Computer Science and Accounting and has taught courses at Miami in both Java and client-server systems. In 2002, he started work on an instant messaging system and founded BitWise Communications, LLC, in 2003, offering both professional and personal instant messaging. During the course of developing BitWise using wxWidgets, Kevin became a wxWidgets developer and has provided enhancements to all platforms. Kevin lives in Oxford, Ohio. Stefan Csomor is director and owner of Advanced Concepts AG, a company that specializes in cross-platform development and consulting. In addition to being a qualified medical doctor, he has more than 15 years of experience in object-oriented programming and has been writing software for 25 years. Good Book, but, it's obsolete because wxWidgets is past version 3. (it's on 3.2 now) and the book is only up to version 2.xxx so a lot of new stuff is not in the book at all. I am using wxWidgets at a job because Qt has licensing $$$ problems for commercial use. WxWidgets is still very productive and well written, and some Qt programmers don't seem to know how to write modular code. So for cross platform GUI wxWidgets is still great even in 2018.

I read this book in late 2011 and have decided to put forward a review. I like wxWidgets in principle but the book showed me that the implementation and concepts could be improved. Between Qt, GTK, and wxWidgets, there are many similarities between those technologies and the book showcases what makes wxWidgets practical.It is said that wxWidgets received the inspiration for its design from Microsoft MFC. I am familiar with Microsoft MFC from Ivor Horton's Microsoft Visual C++ books and I can concur with that assessment. What was once a strength in how wxWidgets was designed may be less the case today. The wxWidgets book here follows an approach that would be strikingly familiar to anyone who has strong exposure to Microsoft's GUI programming systems. The upside is that the wxWidgets system can be employed in Mac and Linux as well which can greatly open up the audience, use, cost and platform capabilities considerations for a software application.The book does a great job of revealing wxWidgets and is a good introduction to the world of cross platform GUI programming. A couple of good ideas are presented in the book. I like the coverage of wxWidgets as presented in the book. I do think it is unfortunate that there is not an up to date version.

wxWidgets is an application framework for developers who want to develop very good-looking applications for Linux, Windows or Mac. The fact that your application can be re-compiled for any of the three operating systems is definetly an attractive plus. My development is mainly for Linux, and when I first ran accross wxWidgets, I was amazed at how quickly I could get a simple application going in under an hour. Compiling the library is as easy as issuing a few commands from a terminal window, changing to the samples directory, and running make under the minimal sample directory.Bear in mind that developing applications is not for complete beginners. You should know C/C++ already, and be reasonably familiar with your OS and compiler. That way, following the examples given in the book, and reading the source code from wxWidgets samples directory, can get you up and running in a minimum of time. I came from a C background, but I had a reasonably complicated inter-airport messaging system for a local goverment authority working in two weeks, with the help of a serial communications library contributed by another wxWidgets user.The book comes with a CD full of useful tools and community contributions. I have yet to see, in my 30+ years of programming and project management, a framework as complete as wxWidgets. The support from other users is extraordinary, and you can often be talking to the original developers who are more than willing to help you get going. The fact that it is open source ensures this fantastic library will always be improving.This book is something I was awaiting for a long time. It is definetly worth the price (and then some).

For someone first learning wxWidgets, this book is an excellent starting point. It clearly explains each part of the library, from the windowing system right down to the threading and socket layers. In addition, the numerous examples allow the programmer to quicky get up to speed on the concepts presented in each section. The book's only weakness is that it is not a comprehensive reference guide, and must be supplemented by the online help files during everyday programming. For someone just starting out or needing a refresher course on the capabilities of wxWidgets, this is an excellent book.

This book did it for me. Writing a GUI can kick your rear, but this book has what you need.It helps if you have been programming for many years and have college courses in computer graphics.Once you have decided to us wxWidgets, get this book. Sorry, I do not give all 5 stars on principle, there is nothing wrong with this book.

I was never able to get DialogBlocks to build the wx library. Kept freezing halfway through. Eventually I gave up and spent a lot of time setting up an Eclipse environment. (This is on an old Powerbook...) Haven't worked with wx in windows or linux yet, but so far I can say that this book is NOT for the beginner. You should have a pretty solid foundation in windowed application design, makefiles and the gcc linker.This isn't the book's fault, but cross-platform GUI development is still quite complicated. wxWidgets is a great tool that has really grown into maturity, but it is certainly not panacea :) Fortunately, there are some very patient and experienced developers in the wx-user mailing list.
