Buying my third "For Dummies" book, I have come to expect careless errors in calculation and grammar, but I was disappointed with how this book focused mainly on the quantitative aspect of this new field. Expecting to read about some implication and integration of business intelligence in this book, I found a short mention of the importance of business but that was all. As stated in the text "business-specific knowledge and a clear business objective are critical" (to predictive analytics), yet there is little discussion about it later. If the predictive analyst expects to be given all the aspects of a problem, they are in for a big surprise.Overall, this book assumed problems in predictive analytics are clearly defined and would definitely cater best to an audience with business knowledge who are looking to expand their quantitative understanding. To someone unknowledgeable to business and statistics, this book may be confusing.
This is an all encompassing book about Predictive Analytics, covering all the topics you run into in this field. As a practitioner, I found this book very satisfying; it strikes a balance between in-depth analysis, and broad-ground covering of the relevant topics. The tips dispensed throughout the book were especially helpful. Also, the authors were able to communicate very complex topics relating to modeling aspects, and data preparation with clarity and precision rarely found in specialized books. Highly recommended.
Gives a very high-level overview of analytics and what types are available and what they might be used for. This book gets into types of analysis but not very deeply. It's a high-level view that I found can become very repetitive and cover off on obvious things for pages at length. Good for someone who wants an intro into analytics but not enough to get you doing things on your own.

First impression: this is a major upgrade from the first edition. Over 400 pages of great information, the authors explain all aspects of predictive analytics and data modeling. This is one of the rare books that cover everything you need to know about this fascinating field. The book covers types of data and various aspects of analytics, data preparation, data modeling, algorithms, technologies, and it dives into the realm of big data. It provides solid insights on how to and what to expect. This is a must read by all practitioners and would-be data scientists.
The book is full of Flaws when dealing with specific sample problems. Took me a while to realize I was getting different answers than what the book shows or was missing a part of the data set completely. No updates from publisher. The Author should really be ashamed on the errors and get it updated at least on a webpage.That being said though, the was a good starter book for a nice broad view of the subject. I gave it 4 stars for that fact. Once you know about the issues in the samples you can work around them, or find other examples of the same sort of problem on youtube.
Excellent content, perfect the business person and early stage technical person. Solid information with good overview of applications, uses and nuances needed to make it successful. It had typos, the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Makes me crazy that a publisher doesn't have someone edit carefully for spelling and correct sentence structure. But if you're looking for a solid background on the topic, look no further. Excellent content, fast shipment. Would recommend.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It provides a simple and easy to understand introduction to predictive analytics. The book provides a nice step by step approach of how to go about using this powerful tool in a business. It is concise and to the point about how to understand and use predictive analytics. I have yet to finish the book, but I am finding it very interesting and hope to finish it by the end of the week. I really enjoyed Part II about incorporating models and algorithms. I found these parts really interesting. I also really enjoyed the real world examples it gave throughout the book. These really helped illustrate what the book was talking about. Overall I would strongly recommend it to anyone studying computer science.
